House of music

House of music is an interactive sound museum in downtown Vienna. You can discover the world of sounds on five floors. Here you roll your own waltz, hear your name as an original Mozart composition and get the chance to conduct the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic orchestra!

Imperial crypt

Since 1633, 149 members of the Habsburg family found their final resting place in the Imperial crypt which is located underneath the Capuchin Church on the Neuer Markt. Marvel at unique coffins from over 300 years of (art)history!

Museum of fine arts (KHM)

The Museum of fine arts near to the Hofburg was built for the extensive collections of the Imperial House. With its collection of important works and the world´s largest Bruegel collection, it is now one of the most important art collections in the world. In addition to statues, sculptures and wager cups, the Kunstkammer also houses Cellini´s world-famous ‘Saliera’.

Leopoldmuseum

With around 6.000 works, the Leopold museum houses one of the world´s most important collections of Austrian art from the second half of the 19th century and modern art. The married couple Rudolf (1925 – 2010) and Elisabeth Leopold (born 1926) started this collection within five decades. Their passion for collecting did not stop at artists who were frowned upon until the 1960s – with more than 220 works, the world´s most extensive collection of objects by Egon Schiele was established. In addition, work complexes by Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka, as well as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller and Emil Schindler are among the collection. In the sense of a holistic concept of art, Rudolf Leopold also collected furniture and applied arts of the Art Nouveau and the Wiener Werkstätte, including objects by Josef Hoffmann or Koloman Moser.

Museum of applied arts (MAK)

Opened in 1871, this building by Heinrich Ferstel depicts one of the magnificent architectural works of Vienna´s Ring boulevard. Originally founded as “k.k. Austrian Museum of Art and Industry”, the MAK houses a unique collection of precious handicrafts of furniture, glass, porcelain, silver and textiles from the Middle Ages to the present.

Mozarthaus Vienna

Mozart´s former apartment is located in the Camesinahaus at Domgasse 5, not far from St. Stephen´s Cathedral. The musician lived on the first floor for two and a half years, it´s the only Mozart apartment in Vienna that still exists.

Imperial treasury

The Imperial treasury in the Hofburg is part of the former collections of the House Habsburg and Habsburg-Lorraine, in which objects of highest dynastic or religious significance were kept. Divided into a clergy and a secular treasury, it is one of the most important collections of this kind.

Wienmuseum (temporarily closed due to construction works!)

With its unique collection of top-class works of art and historical exhibits, the Wienmuseum offers insights into the city´s history from the Neolithic to the present.

Wienmuseum Hermesvilla (open from March to October)

The Hermesvilla is located in the Lainzer Tiergarten. Emperor Franz Joseph presented the residence to his wife Empress Elisabeth – legendary ‘Sisi’ – to be the residence she always dreamed of.
